Three ravens sat upon a tree
Hey doun hey doun
Three ravens sat upon a tree
They were black as black could be
And they sing lay doun lay doun a day
And they sing lay doun lay doun a day
And they sing lay doun lay doun
The middlemaist ane said to his mate
Where will our dinner get
Doun in to yon grass green field
There lays a squire baith killed and dead
And his horse was standing by his side
And thought that he should get on and ride
And his hounds were standing by his feet
They licked his sairs they were so deep
And they sing lay doun lay doun a day
And they sing lay doun lay doun a day
And they sing lay doun lay doun
And there came a lady full of woe
She was big wi' child as she could go
And she's stretched hersel' doon by his side
And for the love of him she's died
And he was buried in Saint Mary’s kirk
Ans she was buried in Saint Mary’s quire
And oot his grave there grew a fir
And oot’ o her’s a lily fair
And they grew til’ they grew to the kirk top
And there they kissed in true love’s knot
So dinnae think but their love was true
When out their grave sick floors did grow
And they sing lay doun lay doun a day
And they sing lay doun lay doun a day
And they sing lay doun lay doun

When first I came to Caledonia
I got loading at number three
And I got lodgings with Donald Norman
He had a daughter she made good tea
And it was me and me brother Charlie
Two bigger shavers you ne'er did see
We're spearing eels in the month of April
And starving slaves out on Scatarie
I went to Norman to buy some brochan
A cake of soap and a pound of tea
But Norman said that I couldn’t have them
'Til fish got plenty on Scatarie
So I went down to the big harbour
I only went for to see the spray
I spied a maid from Boularderie over
She looked to me like the queen of May
I set foot on the deepest ocean
As far from land as once I could be
A-sailing over the darkest ocean
A woman's love would never bother me
If I had pen from Pennsylvania
And I had paper so snowy white
And I had ink of a rosy morning
A true love letter to you I'd write
I set my head to a cask of brandy
And it’s a dandy I do declare
‘Cause when I’m drinking I’m sad and thinking
How could I gain a young lady fair

Queen Jane

Queen Jane lay in labour full six days or more,
Till the women grew weary and the midwives gave o'er.
They sent for King Henry to come with great speed
To be with Queen Jane in her hour of need.
King Henry came to her and he sat by her side.
Sing “What ails thee my Jeannie? What ails thee my bride?”
“O Henry, O Henry, do this one thing for me
Rip open my right side and find my baby.”
“O Jeannie, O Jeannie, that never will do.
It would lease thy sweet life and thy young baby too.”
Well, she wept and she wailed 'til she fell into a swoon
And her right side was opened, and her baby was found.
Well, the baby was christened the very next day
While his poor dead mother a mouldering lay.
Six men went before her and four more travelled on
While loyal King Henry stood mourning alone.
Well, he wept and he wailed until he was sore
Saying, “The flower of all England will flourish no more.”
He sat by the river with his head in his hands
Saying, “My merry England is a sorrowful land.”
